ACROSS THE ALTIPLANO

The stars were beautiful…

The next morning we awoke to dozens of tourists walking around the island, their jeeps having arrived before sunrise.  It wasn’t such a clear day and we had another headwind, but it was fun to be riding out in a group.

We also, of course, had to take the obligatory perspective photos…

With the headwind, we decided to take it fairly easy and camp out on the Salar that night.  After a quick visit to the Salt Hotel (you can no longer stay there), we set up camp out on the open salt.  Sunset was absolutely magical…

The next day we had only a short distance left to the edge of the Salar and then on to Uyuni town.  Neil and Vicky were pondering the llama leg that they had picked up from the roadside when it suddenly attacked them…

Soon after we were picking our way off the Salar and back onto asphalt for the smooth cruise into Uyuni…

A celebratory pizza was in order.  The guys were pretty excited to see sofas too!

Bolivia’s certainly proving itself to be a special, if trying, place!

Once again, here are a selection of Thomas’ fantastic photos from part of the trip, more of which are available on his Flickr feed or, for the German speakers amongst you, on his and Tina’s blog:

  1. Incredible pictures – can’t wait to see them on a big screen. And the nights on the Salar must have been extraordinary. Hope the few days’ rest has helped your knee Xxx
